The Anglo-Kenyan Mosaic Project phase four: A mosaic mural for Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, U.K
In Autumn 2005, seven children and two adults from Kenya worked with me to produce a mosaic mural for one of the major thoroughfares of Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
The Anglo-Kenyan Mosaic Project phase 5
In Spring and Autumn 2006 I was back in Kenya to participate in our largest mosaic project to date - to produce 40 mosaic panels for Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi.
Addenbrookes Hospital 2006-2007.
I built these two mosaic murals - The Dance and The Garden - over 2006-2007 to accompany the mosaic made with the visiting Kenyan children in 2005. Hopefully by the end of 2008 a fourth mural, probably on an indoor theme, will have joined them. They are to be found in the main corridor of Addenbrookes Hospital, and each mosaic measures approximately 3 metres wide by 2.5 metre high.
Digby Crescent Bathroom
A Bathroom mosaic in a private house in North London.
This mosaic was built over eight years (1996-2004), with elements being added whenever a spare moment presented itself. The batheroom is very small, and mosaics and mirrors cover every inch of wall to hallucinatory effect.
Redbridge Primary School Mosaic Project (Redbridge, London, U.K 2006-2007)
In 2006 I was commissioned by Head Teacher Carel Buxton and to supervise the construction of a series of large mosaics for the exterior of Redbridge Primary School. The imagery was devised by myself and some of the school's pupils - and the actual construction of the artworks was carried out over the course of a year by with the active participation of almost every child in the school.
Thanks are particularly due to teacher Alison Bush who organised and inspired so much of this project.
